Financial Aid
"...therefore I command you, 'You shall open wide your hand to your brother . . ."
Deut 15:11
Academics, the Arts, Athletics -- all of these disciplines can be found in any school. Union, however, offers one thing that most schools cannot -- professional instruction from an obviously Christian perspective and effective learning in a distinctively Christian environment. With the help of so many, this opportunity is available to students who may not have the resources.
Financial Aid
Financial Aid is available on an as-needed basis. Anyone may apply for financial aid if they cannot afford the full price of tuition. Assistance is based upon financial need. Union does not have Merit Scholarships. The basic responsibility for financing a student's education rests with the family, but a limited amount of Financial Aid is awarded each year. First preference in the awarding of Financial Aid shall be given to those students who are re-enrolling.
The Foundation will set annual deadlines for applying for financial aid, however, applications are accepted and evaluated as funds become available.
The Financial Aid Fund
Individuals or organizations may designate funds be made available for Financial Aid. Those funds will only be used to grant Aid which has been recommended by FACTS.
About FACTS
Union has partnered with FACTS Management Company to offer a tuition management service, which includes a variety of payment plans. FACTS will also provide a financial needs assessment service for those applying for Financial Aid.
Union uses an outside source for an independent assessment of financial need through a company called FACTS. You can go online to submit your application or mail in an application that is available through our Business Office. The application process is completely confidential. FACTS does not release financial information. Financial Aid is given as a reduction in the tuition charge. Such a reduction is not taxable to the family nor is it to be paid back at a later date.
1. Families apply directly to FACTS for financial aid, and are responsible for submitting their own paperwork and records within the designated deadlines. To be eligible, a family must have applied for enrollment for the school year. FACTS charges $25 to apply, which is paid for by the applicant. Registration, Book Rental Fee, Activity Fee, and Building Fee, will be refunded if Financial Aid is not granted and applicant chooses not to attend Union.
2. Based on an objective set of standards, FACTS recommends a percentage decrease in a family’s tuition. Upon receiving the recommendation from FACTS, the Foundation makes the final decision, based on the amount of financial aid available for the school year.
3. Financial Aid is paid for through donations. The funds available for this program come from special designated funds. FACTS does not actually provide the funds, only the recommendation. Therefore, the amount available for financial aid may vary from year to year based on charitable giving. Since the amount available is limited, it is recommended that those interested submit their assessment application to FACTS as soon as possible.
4. Financial Aid funds will be allotted on a monthly basis. If the student withdraws from school during the year, all unused portions of their Financial Aid revert back to the Union Financial Aid Fund.
5. Financial Aid Awards are for one academic year. Applicants must reapply each year.
6. Financial Aid Awards will be communicated, in writing, from Union to the applicant by the award date.
7. Families are requested to notify Union within 10 days of their tuition award of their acceptance or rejection of the award and/or the consequential withdrawal of their student for lack of a grant award.
Additional funds sometimes become available after initial awards have been made. Families whose applications for admission have been initiated after the first deadline are encouraged to proceed with the financial aid process. The Foundation cannot guarantee available resources – amounts awarded at this late date may be reduced.
