Future Business Leaders of America

FBLA is an organization designed to bring business and education together in a positive working relationship through innovative leadership and career development programs. Union FBLA encourages students to develop competent, aggressive business leadership; strengthen the confidence of students in themselves and their work; create more interest in and understanding of American business enterprise; develop character; prepare for useful citizenship; foster patriotism; and facilitate the transition from school to work. Students in grades 9 through 12 are encouraged to be a part of the Union FBLA. Activities include chapter meetings during lunch, fund raisers, attending conferences, community service, and competition on the district, state, and national levels.

Union Christian Academy made quite a showing at the 2012 Arkansas FBLA State Leadership Conference. 35 students qualified for the state competitions by placing in the top five at district level in February. At state the top three in individual competitions and the top two in team competitions qualified for Nationals which will be held this summer in San Antonio, Texas.

72 FBLA members participated in this year’s FBLA District Conference/Competitions February 1stat the Ft. Smith Convention Center.  Competing against 36 other schools in the district, Union Christian made quite a showing!  Union Christian won 1stplace for Largest Chapter Membership Market share.  21 students walked across the stage during the awards ceremony receiving top five finishes advancing them to the FBLA State Competition in Little Rock on April 2ndand 3rd.  Overall, we had 34 competitors recognized in the top ten results.  A special thank you goes to our Guest Advisors who are always willing to sacrifice their time to help:  Dawayne Murdock, Paige Spradlin, Linda Harrison, and Joyce Burton.  Thanks also to our transportation specialist Mr. Carter and Mr. Clark.

 2011 Fall Leadership Conference

 During the participation of the District 1 Future Business Leaders of America Fall Leadership Conference on October 5, 2011 at the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith, Union Christian Academy was represented with 73 members. Students participated in two workshops of choice with a range from scholarship opportunities to teamwork building. Keynote speaker, Walt Coleman- NFL referee, spoke on the topic of excellence and leadership. Special thanks to George’s restaurant for hosting Union students for lunch.  Also, a special thanks to our FBLA parents Mrs. Paige Spradlin, Mrs. Linda Harrison, and Mrs. Joyce Burton for helping advisor Mrs. Brooks chaperone.  Last, but certainly not least, we could never get where we are going if not for our transportation specialist Mr. Mike Clark and Johnny Carter!

 

2011 Arkansas State Leadership Conference

Over 13,000 students in more than 300 high school chapters participate in Arkansas FBLA.  Approximately 3,000 students and advisers were represented at this year’s Arkansas State Leadership Conference.  Union qualified for state with five teams and five individual competitors and placed as follows:

*Union's FBLA Chapter - 3rd for Market share Membership  
     Also recognized as a Shining Star chapter because 10 or more members were added above the previous year. 
*Rachel Polhemus - 2nd in Cyber Security 
     Rachel also qualified for Nationals this summer in Orlando, Florida.
*Derek Paschal - 2nd in Technology Concepts 
     
Derek also qualified for Nationals.
*Calvin Gammon, Evan Gardner, and Nathanael Jones  - 3rd in Management Decision Making.
*Daniel Calvery and John David Hubbs - 4th in Management Information Systems.

 Regional FBLA Contest - February 2011 

Approximately 45 Students entered 23 different competitions competing with 46 schools in western and northwestern Arkansas.  Union placed first in Chapter membership with 51% - a remarkable accomplishment.  12 students finished in the top 10 among all competitors in a wide variety of areas.
