Semester 1
Art 1 will balance fine arts and crafts, shaping the student’s view of the purposes of art as representative of culture and history. Units of study are based on the design elements of art, such as “line, value, color, texture, and space.” Students will be exposed to different mediums and techniques, such as drawing, sculpting, painting and crafts.
Semester 2
Building upon skills from Semester 1, this course will continue to balance fine arts and crafts. Units of study include sculpture, creative drawing and painting in a variety of media, for example: bookmaking, calligraphy, collage, printmaking, assemblage, and fiber arts. Masterworks, cultural and stylistic trends will also be integrated.
605 Fifth Grade Art |
Grade 5
This is a nine week course which is part of the 5th grade enrichment rotation.
The course is part of the enrichment rotation for the fifth grade. Students will rotate through four courses during each year. 5th graders will be exposed to different methods and venues of art. Students will be exposed to art history and construct activities that coincide with particular times in history.
606 7th Grade Junior High Art |
Grade 7
This is a nine week course which is part of the 7th grade enrichment rotation.
The course is part of the enrichment rotation for the 7 graders Students will rotate through three courses each year. Junior high art is an introductory course giving a “taste” of art covering the fundamental elements, such as “line, shape, form, value, color, texture, and space.” Student will be exploring these elements using different mediums, such as pencil, paints, sculpture and crafts.
608 Sixth Grade Art |
Grade 6
This is a nine week course which is part of the 6th grade enrichment rotation.
The course is part of the enrichment rotation for the sixth grade. Students will rotate through four courses during each year. 6th graders will be exposed to different methods and venues of art. Students will be exposed to art history and construct activities that coincide with particular times in history.
638 Music 5 |
Grade 5
This is a nine week course which is part of the 5th grade enrichment rotation
Students are taught basic music theory: note and rest values, time signatures, treble and bass clefs, and rhythm. Several composers and their respective works are introduced. Students are also introduced to brass, woodwind, string, and percussion instruments. This class prepares students for 6th grade band.
639 Elementary Beginning Band |
Grade 6
This is a full year course.
All 6th grade students have beginning band as their music for 6th grade. Students explore the fundamentals of playing a band instrument. Basic music reading is also taught. Students are shown and demonstrated all band instruments available for beginning band. Students are allowed to tryout for ones they are interested in and ones that are a best fit for the student. At the end of the year, students perform during the annual Spring Band Concert.
641 Concert Band 7 |
Grade 7
This is a full year course.
Prerequisites
This class is for 7th graders who played in band at least a semester or more in the 6th grade or possibly the 5th grade.
This band builds upon the basic band skills even further. Students extend the range on their instrument as well as learn more advanced rhythms and other advanced instrumental skills. This group will perform in the Spring Concert as well as other group and individual playing opportunities during the year.
642 Concert Band 8 |
Grade 8
This is a full year course.
Prerequisites
This class is for 8th graders who played band during their 7th grade year.
This band continues to build upon the basics and proceeds into even more advanced techniques. This group will perform in the Christmas chapel, in the Spring Concert and other group and individual playing opportunities during the year.
650 Beginning Band |
Grade 7 Grade 8

Prerequisites
None required
This class is for 7th-8th, and possibly some 9th grade students who have never played or had very little playing time on a band instrument. The student is introduced to playing a band instrument. Students learn how to care for their instrument and how to make correct sounds. Music reading skills are also taught. Some of the basic goals of this course are to discover the God-given natural talent that each student possesses, develop an interest in instrumental music, and to develop the motor skills that will enable students to perform musically. This group will perform in the Spring Concert and other dates if they become available.
653 Symphonic Band |

Prerequisites
This class is for 9-12th graders who have had previous band experience.
This is the main performing group. Music with increased difficulty is mastered. More advanced techniques are also developed. This group will perform at several opportunities in different settings throughout the year. Group as well as individual playing opportunities are available. At this level, Sr. High students have opportunities to earn college scholarships on a band instrument.
660 7-8 Choir |

Prerequisites
None
The student will learn the concepts of pitch, rhythm, posture, blending, tone quality and diction. Various vocal works will be utilized to enhance stage and contest performance. If possible, various seasonal programs will be learned and presented.
