501 Junior High Computer Keyboarding (8th) |
Grade 8
This is a one semester course which is part of the enrichment rotation.
Computer Keyboarding is a beginning level course designed to teach or reinforce the “touch” system of alpha-numeric keyboarding during the first nine weeks. Students will benefit from this class whether they took keyboarding in middle school or whether this is their first keyboarding class. The second nine weeks students will use Microsoft Word, incorporating formatting features to correctly format newly created documents such as memorandums, business letters, tables, etc. Desktop computers and specialized software will be utilized to build a firm foundation in the keyboarding skills crucial for success in today’s technological society.
502 Sixth Grade Computers |
Grade 6
This is a nine week course which is part of the 6th grade enrichment rotation.
Sixth grade computer is a par of an enrichment rotation for grade 6 for a nine week period. This course is designed to reinforce keyboarding students’ abilities to use the “touch” system of alpha-numeric keyboarding.
503 Fifth Grade Computer |
Grade 5
This is a nine week course which is part of the 5th grade enrichment rotation.
Fifth Grade computer is a part of an enrichment rotation for grade 5 for a nine weeks period. This beginner’s course is designed to teach keyboarding students the “touch” system of alpha-numeric keyboarding.
505 Keyboarding/Computers |

This is a full year course.
This course is designed for students who have not taken keyboarding in the 7th and /or 8th grades Students will become familiar with the keyboard touch system and move into the formatting features of documents. Same as 501 with extended applications.
506 Career Orientations 8th |

This is a one semester course which is part of the enrichment rotation.
Career exploration should begin early so students are aware of the skills and knowledge needed for various occupations. Through career orientation students will have an opportunity to assess their interests, abilities, and search related occupations.
510 Computer Applications |

Prerequisites
Keyboarding
Microsoft Office 2003 Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Publisher) will be taught in this class. The course is devoted to teaching the management of numbers and information using a computer. Students will learn how to create, manage, and manipulate text using existing and newly created documents. Topics include, but are not limited to, multiple documents, macros, columns and tables, calculate and sort, merge, management of spreadsheets, databases, slide shows, calendars, and desktop publishing.
513 Web Design |
Grade 12

Prerequisites
Computer Applications or permission of instructor after successful completion of a competency exam/interview.
Web Design will introduce the student to the knowledge and skills needed to create and manage web sites with conventional HTML and other modern management tools. The student will be introduced to Web Design Life cycle from conception of need through the analysis and design process of a site. Finally, the student will be introduced to the required administrative activity needed for publishing a web site, such as DNS records, decision processes for self hosting vs. paid hosting advantages and site maintenance strategies. The student will develop and publish a web site as part of this class.
Side note: While it is not mandatory that the students have a home computer, it is highly recommended that they have access to a computer to do homework assignments.
515 Computer Programming |
Grade 12
This is a one semester course. Fall.
Prerequisites
Computer Applications or permission of instructor after successful completion of a competency exam/interview.
This course is an introduction to the foundations of programming concepts, structured and object styles, logical thinking and problem solving. General programming topics, design tools, and algorithms are introduced through both pseudo code and current in demand programming languages, in structured modular design, object and event-driven programming paradigms. The student will write multiple programs to reinforce the concepts discussed in the class.
Side note: While it is not mandatory that the students have a home computer, it is highly recommended that they have access to a computer to do homework assignments.
530 Accounting |

This is a full year course.
Accounting will provide a background in the basic accounting procedures used to operate a business. It will also serve as a sound background for employment in office jobs and preparation for studying business courses in college. The course is designed to teach students fundamentals of keeping personal and business financial records. Emphasis is placed on journalizing and posting daily financial transactions, preparing financial reports, and processing payroll transactions for a sole proprietorship, partnership, and corporation. The Southwestern Automated Accounting program will supplement text and workbook assignments, as well as simulated instructional packets.
889 Life Skills and Finance |
Grade 11 Grade 12

This is a one semester course.
Life Skills class will provide students with information needed as they progress to the next step in their lives. Topics such as test taking skills, college planning, career search, resumes and cover letters, job markets, personal values, leadership, current events, and surviving on your own will be discussed. Personal finance will be a large section of the course using the Dave Ramsey Financial Peace format for teens. Methods of instruction will include, but not be limited to, teacher instruction, guest speakers, technology, journaling, group/team activities and student taught presentations. Evaluation methods will include keeping a notebook, class participation, tests, projects, and daily assignments.
